Kurt Cobain's Fender Strat From Final Nirvana Tour To Be Auctioned
The black left-handed stratocaster is estimated to fetch in anywhere between40,000 - 100,000 USD. To see the auction, click here.
Cobain was not famed for using stratocasters. He often opted for his famed Jazzstang - a mixture between the mustang and the jazzmaster guitar. Though he had also famously used a 1960s Fender Jaguar in sunburst - a guitar that Fender had faithfully recreated in left-handed and right-handed versions.
It was believed that this particular black stratocaster was made in Mexico, however, following the auctioneer's research it transpires that the guitar was manufactured in Japan. The guitar is stock except for the neck, neck plate and strings and the GOTOH machine heads.
Further to this, Auction Site Cooper Owen said: "To my knowledge these Strats were not used in 1994, the last recorded use I was able to track down is the 31st Dec 93 show. So they may have been only used during the American leg of the In Utero tour, from early October to the end of year show 1993. Of these 5 guitars, at least two were destroyed beyond repair...., which leaves 3."
