Lady Gaga: I support cheap album price
Lady Gaga has given her support to Amazon for selling her second album at an extraordinarily cheap price, which could have profound implications for the music industry.
Her sophomore album Born This Way stormed to the top of the US billboard charts with the best first-week sales of an album since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005, spurred on by Amazon's two-day special price of 99 cents.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the new queen of pop said that it was a fair price for digital music as it was "invisible" and "in space".
This was not to say that the same rule applied for traditional hard copies like records or CDs.
Gaga, who plays the piano, told the newspaper: "If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music."
It is believed that Amazon's unique offer contributed to around 440,000 downloads of the album.
In the first seven-day sales of her follow-up album to her debut The Fame, the fashion icon shifted 1.1 million copies, making her the fifth female musician to achieve this amazing milestone.
