Lady Gaga tops Forbes Top 100 Celebrity List
Lady Gaga has topped the Forbes Top 100 Celebrity List, cementing her place as one of the most influential musicians in the business.
Gaga, who is a very talented piano player, knocked off the mighty Oprah Winfrey, who herself has dominated the list and the number one spot for a long time.
Although Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire and generates an income far greater than Gaga, the list defines power in the entertainment industry not only in terms of wealth, but also in terms of influence and the way in which celebrities engage with media.
Social media is seen as an increasingly important factor in arranging the list, which is something the outlandishly dressed star is known for.
She currently has 32 million Facebook fans, ten million Twitter followers, and her recent single Born This Way was downloaded one million times within the space of five days.
The power of Gaga was recently demonstrated in London, when she swapped her music instruments for pen and paper, helping edit a special edition of the Metro newspaper.
Another notable addition on the list is Justin Bieber, another big social media advocate who found fame by posting videos of himself on YouTube. At only 17, he makes a remarkable debut on the list by being ranked as the third most powerful celebrity. His first song Baby has been viewed 500 million times, a YouTube record.
