Lana Del Rey: I don't get why people dislike me
In a revealing interview with the Telegraph, the 25-year-old New Yorker explained that all she is trying to do as an artist is make "something beautiful".
Her nervous performance was attacked by critics in the media and the online world, with people commenting that her efforts were of a poor quality.
"I don't want to talk about how it made me feel because I think it's disrespectful to God to go to a dark place with this kind of thing," she told the newspaper.
"People just want to see me go off the rails. That's the only reason they're watching. They just want to see what happens."
She added that she is not a manufactured pop star – no gimmicks, no dodgy outfits – a subtle reference to Lady Gaga – and no creative influence.
The songs and style are hers, which some labels had previously described as creepy.
"And then, one day, it's like people decided it wasn't actually too strange, it was actually too perfect," she added.
