Learning a musical instrument 'can boost IQ'
People wanting to keep their minds sharp should consider learning a musical instrument.
Scientists in Switzerland have found that IQ levels can be boosted by as much as seven points when playing an instrument on a regular basis, reports the Daily Mail.
Lutz Jancke from the University of Zurich said the tests showed that a positive change occurred in people of different ages.
"Even in people over the age of 65, after five months of playing, there were strong changes in the brain," the expert stated.
It was explained this could be put down to the fact that the parts of the brain that control hearing, memory, and control of the hands all become more active when playing a musical instrument.
Musical instruments can also be good for children, according to a recent study from the Northwestern University of Illinois, which discovered that those who play music tend to perform better academically, reported the Sun.
