Learning an instrument 'boosts a child's confidence'
Keith Hejna, of music education specialist Little Kids Rock, stated that learning an instrument can offer a number of positive benefits to young people.
For example, he said music education can build confidence and enhance their communication skills.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he also noted that learning an instrument can help to unleash a person's creativity.
"Quantitative data backs this up," Mr Hejna commented.
"Music education isn't just something supplemental or artsy."
He added that learning a musical instrument can also boost a person's academic performance, in particular their maths and science skills, as well as their spatial and abstract reasoning.
According to figures from Halifax, about 9.7 million people in the UK actively play a musical instrument.
The study also showed that approximately one in three British households contain more than £500 worth of musical instruments or recording equipment.Posted on 11 Nov 2009 17:00 to category : Instruments News
