Lee Mavers makes surprise gig comeback
Lee Mavers made a surprise comeback at a secret gig at The Deaf Institute in Manchester yesterday evening (June 19th).
The obscure acoustic guitar player from The La's has not made a live appearance for two-years.
Mavers was joined on stage by Gary Murphy, the bass guitar player from the now defunct band The Bandits.
He played a 15-song set that went down well with the crowd as it included some of his classic hits like There She Goes, Feelin' and Timeless Melody.
Despite the decided lack of publicity for the event, many fans were present at the gig, using the power of the internet to find out that a gig was taking place.
Performing under the pseudonym Lee Rude and the Velvet Underpants, Mavers was in fine form and even did a turn on the drums.
Fans hoping to hear new music were disappointed as Mavers continued
His last public gig was in 2009, when he appeared alongside Pete Doherty in Birmingham.
Mavers went into obscurity soon after The La's released their self-titled debut album in 1990.
It was said that he had become disillusioned with the music industry as the album was not the one he would like to have released.
