Les Paul 'was a terrifyingly brilliant guitar player'
According to Gibson, Paul was both the "architect and grandfather" of rock 'n' roll, revolutionising the way music is recorded and played by coming up with innovations such as the solid-body electric guitar.
"Beyond that, he was an almost terrifyingly brilliant player, whose speed and phrasing influenced the likes of Jeff Beck, Duane Eddy and Charlie Byrd," the musical instrument manufacturer's website stated.
Other artists to feature in positions between 30th and 21st in the ongoing countdown are Angus Young of AC/DC, Johnny Marr, who made his name in The Smiths, and The Edge from U2.
The top 20 is set to be announced over the course of this week, but other musicians who have featured lower down the list so far include Slash and Lou Reed.Posted on 26 May 2010 16:25 to category : Music News
