Lil Wayne: New album is done
The hip-hop megastar Lil Wayne has announced that he has completed his new studio album entitled That Carter IV.
It was originally scheduled for release in May but will now come out at the end of August, one day after the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
The release date is seen as a savvy move from the talented rapper as maximum exposure will be achieved.
Known for his rhythmic verbal skills on the microphone, Wayne told MTV News how the late Tupac Shakur influenced his first single How to Love.
He said: "That song is just sweeping the world. It's touching every woman, that's what it was for.
"It was like Tupac had 'Keep Ya Head Up' and it was a message to women and little girls across the world just to keep your head up even though things are hard. That's what my song was."
It is believed that a new battle of words is opening up in the hip-hip industry again, with Kanye West and Jay-Z asserting their claim as the best rappers alive.
Their new joint album, Watch the Throne, is seen as a statement to all other rappers including Lil Wayne that they are the best of the best.
