Linkin Park closed the UK's Download rock festival last night (12.06.11).

The 'Crawling' rockers ended the three day event which also saw performances from metal heavyweights including Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Alice Cooper, The Darkness, Def Leppard and Avenged Sevenfold.

Linkin Park guitarist Mike Shinoda played the bands set - which featured tracks including 'Breaking the Habit', 'One Step Closer' and Faint' - despite having split his finger earlier in the day.

Over on the festival's second stage, Rob Zombie told his crowd: "You're not here for a rock show, you've had enough rock, enough bands and heavy metal over the last two days.

"We're not having a rock concert here - we're going to have a f***ing zombie party."

His energetic set included 'Living Dead Girl' and 'Jesus Frankenstein' as well as tracks he performed the last time he appeared at Donington Park, Derbyshire, in England's midlands in 1995 with the band White Zombie.

Elsewhere over the weekend System of a Down played their first UK show since ending a five year hiatus, encouraging a huge crowd sing-a-long to their anthemic track 'Chop Suey'.

Meanwhile, ahead of his performance on Saturday (11.06.11) night, original shock rocker Alice Cooper told BANG Showbiz: "It's going to be fun, British audiences are great, I think British audiences got our show and us before the American audiences did, so we owe that to them."

The 'School's Out' singer then played a theatrical set which culminated with him having his head 'guillotined' off and held up for the crowd, before he played an encore of 'Elected'.

On the same afternoon Avenged Sevenfold paid an emotional tribute to their deceased drummer, James Sullivan - who died of an overdose of prescription drugs in 2009 - unveiling a stage backdrop picturing him and dedicating their set to "our brother upstairs".

Other acts to perform over the weekend - which saw 70,000 rock fans bathed in sun on Saturday and soaked in rain throughout Sunday - included Skunk Anansie, Bullet for my Valentine, Down and Twisted Sister.
