Liverpool to launch its first ever piano festival
Entitled Tickle the Ivories, the city's first ever "piano busking festival" will see five pianos placed in five different locations in Liverpool ONE, transforming the streets of the shopping and leisure boulevard into an open-air musical hubs of activity.
The piano festival comes after the hugely successful showcase of Liverpool arts and culture at Light Night.
Organised by Open Culture, a community interest company (CIC), the festival is open to everyone, from schools to charities to amateur musicians. The idea is to celebrate the piano in all its forms.
Charlotte Corrie, from Open Culture, said that there would be a wide range of performance styles on show, from classical to contemporary, folk to funk and jazz to jitterbug.
She said: "We want people to come and perform with the piano as accompaniment – whether it’s music, theatre or dance it can be anything you think the public will enjoy."
The festival runs from July 1st to September 4th 2011.
Open Culture's mission is to increase the profile of an engagement with arts and culture in Liverpool.
