London Calling artwork to be re-imagined by artists and musicians
The iconic artwork of The Clash's London Calling album is to be reinterpreted by some of the most famous names from the UK's cultural scene.
It famously features Paul Simonon about to smash his bass guitar with the image being chosen by the artwork's designer Ray Lowry, who died in 2008.
In honour of Lowry, the likes of Tracey Emin, Nick Hornby and Billy Childish have come up with their own versions of the cover, with the results due to be displayed at the Idea Generation Gallery in London next week, reports the Independent.
The photograph, which was taken by Pennie Smith, was named as the best rock 'n' roll image of all time by Q Magazine.
Simonon is now a member of Gorillaz, along with his former bandmate in The Clash Mick Jones.
The pair are set to appear with the group when they headline Glastonbury later on this month.Posted on 17 Jun 2010 20:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
