Looking to create new music for the toy piano
Phyllis Chen, who started her trade on a conventional piano at the age of five, fell in love with the so-called toy version of the instrument at the age of 21 and hasn't looked back ever since.
Speaking to the Times Live, Ms Chen talked about how this so-called toy version of the piano is, like the ukulele, becoming popular again.
"It's hard to feel like it's completely fresh, for me, when I play the piano," Ms Chen said.
"The toy piano feels a little bit more like it's being invented now. It's a language that's of today and there's no preconceived idea about it."
Ms Chen has explained that what most attracts her to the toy piano is that it is a relatively untapped musical instrument, which stems from the fact it was designed to be nothing more than a toy aimed at children and young people.
"With so much untapped potential and no set boundaries on how it should sound or be played, I think that there is still a lot of artistic exploration that can happen on the toy piano," she explains on her website.
