Lord Brocket sues over damage to grand piano
Lord Brocket is suing Brocket Hall International (BHI) for the damage done to a 1929 Steinway piano that is worth £100,000.
The controversial Lord, who served half of a five-year prison sentence for insurance fraud, launched a county court claim that alleges BHI has caused £20,000 worth of damage to the piano.
Brocket, who later went on to appear on the hit reality TV show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, said that BHI neglected to look after the piano while he was behind bars.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he claims that the piano has been damaged by insensitive guests who have drenched it in red wine and left cigars to burn out on its surface.
He told the newspaper that he had, with reluctance, decided to pursue legal action because the board of trustees responsible for the management of the estate and all its possessions have chose not to respond to his letters.
Lord Brocket said: "It’s terribly sad. It’s one of the finest pianos in the country.
"The Model B Steinway is a wonderful instrument but some years are better than others and the 1929 is like a fine wine."
Steinway has been producing pianos since 1853. It spends a year making each piano, giving it a touch and style that has made its name legendary.
