Making 'new' guitars
Jonas Ceelen, who has been making guitars for around 15 years, explained that he uses the basic measurements of a classic Gibson guitar and then 'reinvents it'.
It's a lot of fun to get creative with these things and make the guitar sound better and more personal," he told Colorado Daily.
The idea first came to him courtesy of a student of his – he teaches people how to make guitars.
Robert Whelton had specific ideas as to what he wanted to learn, but in particular he wanted a profile similar to an electric guitar, a faster neck and an "electrified nylon string".
So good was his idea that Mr Ceelen called the finished model a Wheltone.
"It gives it both the benefit of having ... a solid neck all the way through, while still having the resonant qualities of having a truly acoustic instrument,” Mr Whelton told the online news provider.
In related news, musician Brian Fisk took to YouTube to reveal his bespoke Star Wars guitar, which took him three months to make.
