Man celebrates 50 years of making music instruments
A man who makes special music instruments for a living is celebrating his 50th year as a tradesman.
Rodney Briscoe, 64, has been making organs since he left school at the age of 14 to embark on an apprenticeship with William Boggis, reported the Diss Express.
Moving up the ranks, Mr Briscoe took over the business in 1975, where he still works today with his wife and a small team.
Speaking to the newspaper, he spoke of his enduring enthusiasm for making the beautiful music instruments.
He said: "I'm still passionate about what I do, and it has been an honour to work in some of the country and East Anglia's most beautiful buildings - not that I have any intention of giving up just yet, however."
Interestingly enough, Mr Briscoe, from Roydon, can't actually play the organ.
This hasn't stopped him making or repairing the instrument, and business is still good. All-in-all, his company maintain about 350 organs.
What makes an organ different from a piano is that it is a wind instrument. Sound is created by blowing wind through the pipes, while on a piano a sound is created when a mallet strikes the string.
