Man charged with stealing Fender Telecaster from a dead man
Steven Conrad admitted stealing the electric guitar to local police officers, who then charged him with theft of moveable property from a corpse.
The $2,000 (approximately £1,286) electric guitar was returned to the family and entombed in a crypt at the mausoleum at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
Mr Conrad, 39, who works at the cemetery, is quoted to have said: "That's a Telly, a really expensive guitar. I have to have that guitar. It's too expensive to be in a crypt."
The sheriff's department added that Mr Conrad had gone on to say: "This isn't something I normally do; I just have a respect for fine musical instruments."
Known as the Tele, the Fender Telecaster is a solid body electric guitar that was first introduced in 1949.
It is named after its inventor, Leo Fender, whose pioneering contribution to electric guitars changed the face of music forever.
