Manic Street Preachers believe single is dead

Manic Street Preachers believe the age of the single is over.

Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers have made an outlandish claim – the single is dead.

The well-respected band believed there has been such a massive shift in the way music is consumed, bought and listened to, that single tracks have become something of a rarity.

Frontman James Dean Bradfield told NME:"The golden age of the rock pop single is gone."

The comment comes ahead of the band releasing a new album entitled National Treasures, which includes all 38 singles.

This will be accompanied by a special one-off gig at the O2 Arena in London on December 17th.

After which the band will look to get back in the studio and "re-investigate themselves" in a bid to push their own creativity further.

"We are going to indulge something in the band musically. Our next album will be an opus," said Bradfield.

Manic Street Preachers first stormed to critical fame in the 90s. One of their most famous hits is If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next.
