Bass guitarist Nicky Wire has said Manic Street Preachers decided to "throw the kitchen sink" at the making of their latest album.

Speaking at a special gig to celebrate the arrival of Postcards From A Young Man, Wire stated that the group see the record as their final chance to reach a mass audience.

The bass guitar player added that the group had enjoyed collaborating with fellow Welsh musician John Cale, who lent his vocals to one of the songs.

"John Cale is the first Welsh musician that made us realise you could escape your surroundings and still be cool," said Wire.

Postcards From A Young Man is due to be released on September 27th 2010.

The band are set to go on a lengthy tour in support of the record, starting out in Glasgow on September 29th before ending up in Cambridge on November 1st.

In between, they will visit cities including Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham.
