Mapex has designed a series of special-edition Black Panther drum kits based on its popular Blaster and Velvetone lines.

The new equipment comes with Sonic Saver hoops that have been added to sit upon each tom and offer players an increased level of control.

A limited number of the sets have been produced by Mapex, with the Blaster version building on the range's reputation for providing musicians with a deep, warm tone and ferocious attack, reports MI-Pro.

"The rounded, 5:5 back cut bearing edge helps ensure smooth contact between the head and shell, while increasing the surface area for better resonance from head to shell," the publication explained.

Meanwhile, the Velvetone model has been specifically designed to be well-suited to recording in the studio, coming with Suede Remo Ambassador heads and Sonic Saver rolled hoops.

It also comes with high-gloss chrome that is made to blend in with its maple burst finish.

Mapex drum kits are used by a wide variety of musicians, including Pete Ellard from Scouting for Girls and Oliver Askew of The Young Knives.

Other bands to make use of the company's equipment include Therapy?, Gallows and Mystery Jets.
