Marcus Collins says public want honesty
"I think the public can feel hurt if you're not honest. I made the decision early on to stay true to who I am," the former X Factor contestant has said.
The singer, who has released a self-titled debut album, was talking about the decision to come out to the world as gay – something he wanted to make public sooner rather than later.
In the interview, he also mentions Will Young and Joe McElderry – two former winners of TV singing shows who later declared that they were gay.
Marcus was on The X Factor last year, during the same season as singers such as girl group Little Mix, who eventually won, and Misha B.
In previous years, the show has been won by guitar strumming singer Matt Cardle as well as Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis.
