Mark Radcliffe would have been a drummer
Mark Radcliffe has revealed that his passion for playing drums might have given him an alternative career as a drummer of a rock and roll band.
Radcliffe, who is one of the best known radio DJs on the BBC and in the country, has been playing the drums since he was a child and cites Led Zeppelin's John Bonham as the greatest drummer of all time.
The DJ was speaking to Pendle Today a week before he visits Clitheroe in Lancashire at an event that sees him presenting a mixture of music from his solo album What Remains of the Day and readings from his new book Reeling In The Years.
Radcliffe, who was famously one half of Mark and Lard on BBC Radio 1, said: "I’ve been playing drums since school, and now I’m pretty sure I’d like to die behind the drums in some pub when I’m 90. I play the drums in the shed these days."
He also revealed that the first time he met the Beatles superstar Sir Paul McCartney was when he was making a TV documentary about Rickenbacker guitars and how he can't believe his luck that he is able to email David Bowie.
