Matt Helders wants to learn the guitar
Matt Helders, whose skill behind the drum kit has brought him critical acclaim, wants to branch out like his peer Dave Grohl, who went from drummer of Nirvana to guitar-wielding frontman of the Foo Fighters.
"I need to learn the guitar too, I may do that over Christmas," he told NME.
"I can't play any chords, but I can play a few riffs. Who needs chords?"
The guitar isn't the only instrument he wants to master – Helders also has his sights set on mastering the auto harp over the festive holidays.
He will be taking a break from touring with the English rock band and from recording duties in his bid to become a multi-instrumentalist.
"It's like a piece of wood with strings on it, and you press this button down on the side that tells you what chord it is and you just strum it," he told the magazine.
"So you don't actually have to do anything!"
The Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner said recently he believed the band had cracked the US market following their recent stateside tour.
