'Mean Melin' Wins Air Guitar World Championship
Having entered the competition through the Dark Horses round, the contestant named Eric 'Mean Melin' Melin earned himself the 1st place spot with 34.2 points.
His energy-filled performance impressed the judges with fierce headbanging.
An American contestant won in 2012, too. Nordic Thunder, otherwise known as Justin Howard dressed as a Viking to defend his title at this year's contest, where he achieved 4th place. Mean Melin's outfit was less flamboyant, with a red sleeveless t-shirt and jeans.
"This is insane" said Melin after finding out he won, "This is the best night in my life."
Second place was awarded to fellow American Doug 'The Thunder' Stroock, with British air guitarist Thom 'W!ld Th!ng 37' Wilding claiming third place.
The city of Oulu in Finland has been home to the contest for the past 17 years, attracting Air Guitar heroes from all over the world. Judges decide their scores based on stage presence and technical ability.
