Metallica and Lou Reed create monster album
Two of the most unlikely and biggest names in the music industry have got together to produce a new studio album.
Heavy metal superstars Metallica have teamed up with avant-garde rock star Lou Reed on a yet-to-be-titled album.
The partnership came about when Metallica performed with Reed at the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October 2009.
The band wrote on their website that they "were proud to announce" that they had just completed the album.
In what was a poorly kept secret – Kirk Hammett, the lead electric guitar player out of the band, let slip that they were recording with Reed – news of the collaboration has got fans and industry critics buzzing with anticipation at what the album will sound like.
The band said: "In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs over the last few months and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week."
Metallica's first album was released in 1983, which was followed by a US and European tour that saw their fame rise.
