Mick Jagger has pulled out of Davos event because he is nobody's political pawn.
The Rolling Stones frontman said that the reason he was pulling out of the annual World Economic Forum event was due to the fact he felt he was being used as a political pawn.
In a statement, the former hellraiser explained that throughout his career as a musician he had "eschewed" party politics. His appearance at Davos was, in his opinion, to be a personal one as he thought it would be stimulating.
"I have always been interested in economics and world events," Jagger said.
"I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate. I think it's best I decline the invitation to the key event and curtail my visit."
The Guardian reported that this announcement was a major embarrassment to the British government, who are currently under increasing pressure to find a resolution to the ongoing economic crisis.
"Clearly we are disappointed that Sir Mick doesn't feel he can support a non-political event that promotes Britain," a source close to the government said.
