Microsoft put an end to Xbox music service rumours

The technology company revealed that it was only adding voice search functions to help users find media content on the console.

Microsoft have announced that it is not launching a new online music software service this year, quashing rumours that indicated otherwise.

The electronic giant responded to claims that a new Xbox music service was to be launched in the autumn, with users being able to access a massive catalogue of over 11 million songs.

In a statement, Microsoft said that recent reports that had been circulating in the press were inaccurate.

It said: "A recent demonstration of upcoming Xbox features showcased what we will deliver later this fall on Xbox, including voice search with Bing on Xbox to locate and access entertainment content on the console.

"This includes Zune music which has a catalogue of more than 11 million tracks."

In other words, Microsoft is just extending its existing service by integrating it with the Kinect controller.

There is still no news whether the technology powerhouse will venture out fully into the online music market.

At the E3 conference earlier this year, it kept quiet on such developments, instead focusing on showcasing a new Xbox 360 dashboard layout with TV, movie and music content.

The company recently teased the industry with a short glimpse at its Windows 8 Server, which includes 100 new features.
