Moog celebrated with Google Doodle

Google Doodle celebrates Robert Moog's birthday
Robert Moog would have been 78 today

Robert Moog, electronic music innovator, is celebrated by Google on what would have been his 78th birthday.

The Google Doodle is fully interactive, allowing users to play the keyboard, adjust filters and effects and even record their synthesized sound.

Full controls include a mixer, oscillators, filters and envelopes.

Creating modular, voltage-controlled analog synthesizers in the 1950s, the Moog company quickly grew to become the revered brand it is today.

Following the release of Wendy Carlos' Switched-on Bach in 1968, the Moog became a constant fixture of pop music.

The early 1970s saw the introduction of the Minimoog Model D, which has become perhaps the most widely known and respected of Moog's synths.

The small, monophonic three-oscillator keyboard combined ergonomic design, simple controls and portability to make a classic instrument.

Artists such as Yes, Tangerine Dream, Pink Floyd and Gary Numan have become synonymous with Moog synthesizers.

The latest addition to Moog's range is the Minitaur - a diminutive bass pedal that produces incredible deep, analog bass sounds.
