Technology is changing the way people learn how to play new music instruments, according to an online teacher.

Most people learn an instrument face-to-face with a teacher, but increasingly, the web is allowing for keen musicians to instead pick up the essential skills on the world wide web.

Edward Weiss, an online piano teacher, explained the "internet is a great equaliser", making it easier for "teachers to teach and learners to learn", no matter where they are in the world.

Mr Weiss, who has been teaching people how to play the piano in the New Age style online for over a decade, now has 1,000 students.

He said: "It's really about convenience first and price second. What could be better than taking lessons from your own home?

"Not only that but taking lessons online is almost always cheaper than taking them in person."

The great thing about this new way of learning are the numerous resources that come with a working in a virtual world and the variety of styles that can be accessed, for example, by the videos posted by teachers.
