Mozart's piano concertos to calm German drivers

German ministers are hoping Mozart's piano concertos will reduce road accidents.
Great deals on musical instruments
Mozart's piano concertos might be enjoyed in usually classical surroundings but now his music is being used to help curb road rage in Germany.

The German government is releasing a new CD called Adagio in the Automobile, a calming collection of Mozart's piano-led music, which they hope will go a long way to calming drivers on busy roads.

Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer told the Associated Press that "many accidents are due to aggressive drivers", which he hopes the music will combat.

Last year, there were 2.4 million accidents recorded on German roads.

Ministers are hoping this novel idea, along with other measures, will help bring that number down considerably.

The CD features part of Mozart's Piano Concerto 21, which is accompanied by Berlin's Deutsche Oper Orchestra.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a pioneering piano player, prolific and prodigious in his musical output.

During his lifetime he composed some 600 pieces of music, ranging in styles of music: piano, choral, symphonic, operatic and concertante being a few examples.
