Music Icon David Bowie Dies Aged 69
The lengendary artist who experimented with many different musical genres and appearances had fought against cancer for the last 18 months. The news of his death comes just several days after his 69th birthday.
The news was officially confirmed via his Facebook page, which read:
"January 10 2016 - David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
Bowie had many successful albums and singles, none more so than the 'Berlin Trilogy', which included the albums Low, Heroes and Lodger. His final album Blackstar was released just three days prior to his death along with the single 'Lazarus' on the 7th January 2016.
Musicians and fans alike have left their own tributes across social media and in the press, including Iggy Pop, who Tweeted: "David's friendship was the light of my life. I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is - Iggy Pop"
