Music Tourism Grows in the UK
The 'Wish You Were Here' report outlined that the average live music audience is made up of 41% of tourists, and it's estimated that 24,251 full-time jobs are sustained due to the amount of music tourism in the UK.
Music tourists are classed in two categories, domestic and overseas. The criteria for domestic tourism is someone who travels over three times the average commuting distance to attend a gig or festival.
Landmark events like the Stone Roses at Heaton Park and the multitude of festivals available in the UK catering for all music tastes are an attractive reason to travel for many music tourists, as well as the variety of destinations of cultural importance such as the Abbey Road crossing.
A target of £31.5bn has been set for 2020, a goal industry insiders are confident about. CEO of UK Music, Jo Dipple, said "Our opportunities are limitless. Consider the record demand for Glastonbury 2014. The love of music is a powerful driver for growth."
With more people come higher expectations, and Live Sound expert Bryan Grant has noticed the change at big live events. "The quality of sound is becoming more and more refined," says Bryan. "Digital consoles have made mixing easier because they are more compact and much more powerful."
