Music group for children receives cash boost

A Nottingham-based children’s music group has received a cash boost.
Great deals on musical instruments

A music group that works with children with communication and behavioural problems has received a financial boost to help it continue delivering its services.

The Speech Sign and Song Club, which is based in Beeston, Nottingham, has been given a share of £35,000, reports the Nottingham Post.

The money, which comes from the Cash for Your Community campaign – launched by the Post and Nottingham Building Society – is an important addition to the finances of the club, which relies on a £2.50 charge per session and external fund to keep it going.

Set up and managed by experienced pre-school music leaders, Roma Seth and Wendy Prevezer, it is hoped the money will allow the club to carry on into 2012.

Speaking to the Post, Ms Prevezer said some of the money would go towards producing a new resource pack that families could take home as well as going towards the cost of running the group: "We don't want to let families down because they really rely on it."

Parents and their children who attend the music club are exposed to music instruments and techniques that help them develop through “words, signs and body language”. This has led to better confidence and improved communication skills.
