Music instruments found in Christmas present for orchestra
The £27,000 worth of music instruments was recovered from an industrial yard in Morecambe, Lancaster the Sunday before Christmas after going missing when a van containing all the orchestra's possessions was stolen from an industrial estate in Yeadon, Leeds.
Speaking to the Wetherby News, the group's conductor Martin Binks said that he thought the instruments would be damaged but the thieves had obviously taken great care of them.
"Astonishingly, everything had obviously been carefully unloaded and placed in the yard. Even the covers were still on the two kettle drums, each of which is worth £3,500, all the other instruments were completely undamaged, the music was a touch damp because it had rained in the night but the stands and rostra were absolutely fine," he added.
Mr Binks suggested that the thieves had been interested in the van rather than what was inside it.
Leeds Symphony Orchestra has a number of concerts coming up, including a show at St. Chad's Church, Headingley on February 18th and at King James' School Knaresborough on the 25th of the month.
