Music instruments installation attracts thousands
An art installation which includes 500 hand-crafted music instruments being hung up in a Furness fell has attracted over 8,000 visitors.
The unusual exhibit, which was the brainchild of artist Pierre Sauvageot and his company Lieux Publics and was titled Harmonic Fields, featured cellos, drums, whistles and flutes, which were all hung up in the wind to create a natural soundscape as the breeze blew around them.
Discussing the thinking behind the piece, Sauvageot told the North West Mail: "It is different when the wind is strong to when there is no wind.
"When it is calm, you are hearing the landscape.
"I think people need to have a new relationship with the landscape, and artists are leading the way."
Speaking to the Westmoreland Gazette, Julie Tait, the director of Kendal Arts International, said that the group were very pleased with the attendance figures and the reaction it had received from audiences.
After its success in the Lake District, where it was part of the Lakes Alive cultural programme, the exhibition will be heading to Holland and then New York.
Pierre Sauvageot's other work included founding the concert audience, which offer audiences to become part of the orchestra, and has become a part of many international music festivals over the years.
