Music 'one of the UK's crown jewels'
The music industry is one of the UK's "crown jewels" and is highly important to the nation's economy, an expert has said.
Feargal Sharkey, chief executive of UK Music, explained that it helps to bring tourists to the country "whether they're attending one of our many music festivals … or simply drawn by our reputation as the world's preeminent music-producing nation."
To qualify how much users of musical instruments in this country help to contribute to the nation's economy, UK Music has commissioned Bournemouth University to undertake research into this topic.
Two reports are scheduled to be published by early 2011, one regarding music as a driver of tourism and the other making proposals into how the musical tourism industry in the UK could grow.
One attraction that has come in for praise recently is the British Music Experience in London.
