A musician has put on display her unique collection of music instruments in India which she has acquired from all over the world.

Anasuya Kulkarni gathered the 300 music instruments as a symbol of music's universal appeal, which is on show in Bangalore.

She told reporters that music had no language barrier and no concept of nationality, meaning that each country's unique style of music could "speak" to people from all over the world.

The music instruments in her collection have come from places like Australia, China, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Kabul, Bhutan and Afghanistan.

Ms Kulkarni first became interested in developing this unique assortment of instruments when her father-in-law gave her a Swarmandal – an Indian harp.

Speaking to reporters, she said: "That was my first collection. I never knew that I would be going to collect so many instruments."

This instrument is often used as an accompaniment for classical vocal Hindustani music.

Ms Kulkarni trained under the famous Mysore T Chowdiah and made her first public performance in 1982 at the Durlabha Vadya Vinod International Music Festival in Bhopal.

The Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, which is based in Tejgad near Chhota Udepur, has set up a conservation project to protect the ancient traditions surrounding Gujarati music instruments so that future generations have access to them.
