Musicians to unite at Big Guitar Jam
A total of 50 classical guitarists are to play together at a special event in Manchester later this month.
The musicians are to perform in the Big Guitar Jam as part of the Classical Guitar Weekend taking place on January 15th and 16th in the city's Bridgewater Hall.
Craig Ogden, a principal lecturer in guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester and a leading classical guitarist, will be conducting the ensemble and told the City Life website that he is looking forward to the occasion.
"To have a venue as substantial and well-known as the Bridgewater Hall supporting a guitar festival is fantastic," he said.
The Australian musician, who has been nicknamed the 'Classical Jack Johnson', was the youngest person to ever be awarded a fellowship by the RNCM in 2004.
Ogden explained that he has been playing the guitar since the age of five, being inspired by the music of John Denver.
"There was one song in particular called This Old Guitar and it so utterly romanticised the notion of guitar for me," he stated.
Weekend tickets for the event are currently available for a reduced price of £33.75.
