Musikmesse vs NAMM: The Battle of the Trade Shows
In recent times, we've seen exciting new gear from the likes of Novation, Dave Smith Instruments, new Gibson and Fender guitars, Korg synths and more - plus weird and wonderful instruments from all over the world.
But which trade show rules them all? We've put together a scientifically-accurate test to find out.
NAMM: Anaheim, California | Messe: Frankfurt, Germany
Winner: We'd have to call this one a draw. The weather is great in both places, but time spent travelling means less time at the show!
Food and Drink
NAMM: Cola and Chili Dogs | Messe: Beer and Bratwurst
Winner: We can't really argue with the best hotdogs in the world... and the choice of beer! Messe wins.
Visitors in 2013
NAMM: 90,000 | Messe: 70,000
Winner: The bigger show is NAMM, and although Musikmesse follows quite close behind, it's a spectacular environment to be in!
Exhibitors in 2013
NAMM: 5,000 | Messe: 1,500
Winner: Perhaps it's because it's earlier in the year, but NAMM has the edge again with exhibitor numbers.
Biggest Launch of 2013
NAMM: Korg MS-20 mini | Messe: Korg Volca
Winner: The real winner here is probably Korg! We're still talking about the MS-20 mini, launched last year. NAMM 2014 even had the launch of the MS-20 DIY Kit.
Biggest Celebrity Sighting
NAMM: Stevie Wonder | Messe: Slash
Winner: Stevie Wonder visited almost every stand from Moog to Hammond at NAMM... but we can't help but feel excited about getting a glimpse of that top hat at Messe!
NAMM: 92,000 | Messe: 61,400
Winner: Hard to argue with those stats, NAMM wins.
Jet Lag Factor
NAMM: 9/10 | Messe: 0/10
Winner: With Frankfurt being only an hour ahead, we definitely arrive at Messe feeling fresher and ready to find the best new gear!
NAMM just has the edge slightly, but once the buzz from across the pond has quietened down, we love heading to the show at Musikmesse to see what's going on there!
