NAMM 2011: Ashdown Launch New Bass Amps
Leading British bass amp manufacturer Ashdown has released a stack of new bass gear.
A genuine London double-decker bus forms the focus of Ashdown Engineering?s booth at NAMM 2011, where the UK bass-specialists are set to launch a range of new tube bass amps.
Perhaps the most exciting of Ashdown's releases at NAMM 2011 is the Drophead LB 30 and 200 combo.
These are convertible designs in which the amp chassis is stored in the cabinet for ease of transportation, then flipped up and clipped into place on top, ready for stage or studio use.
The Drophead LB 30 is based on Ashdown's sensational Little Bastard 30-Watt tube head ? recently described by musicradar.com as ?something very special? ? delivering its characteristically rich tube tone via a single 15 inch speaker.
Meanwhile the more powerful Drophead 200 also uses a 15 and, with the Drophead 30, joins a range of new Ashdown tube amps that also includes new 200W, 330W and 550W tube heads and combos.
Sure to grab the headlines are the new 220 Dual Tube Pre Amp Series, first heard in the 427 Small Block, Ashdown's Dual Tube bass preamp was an instant hit, thanks to its solid, articulate bottom end and sparkling highs.
The 220W Ashdown 220 Touring 112 takes this stunning tube preamp design and partners it with an uprated and tour proven EB power stage, delivering the payload via a custom 12? driver.
The discerning bass player gets high and low gain inputs, front panel-mounted FX send and return, rotary bass, middle and treble controls with mid shift, bass shift and bright switching, mute switch, rotary gain and master volume controls and a DI output.
Retro cabinet styling features vinyl covering, chrome protective corners, vintage red grille cloth and, of course, the trademark illuminated Ashdown VU meter.
