NAMM 2014: Gibson Celebrate 120th Anniversary with 28 New Models
Gibson are celebrating their 120th anniversary, we take a look at their history and glimpse into the future for their 2014 releases.
From Orville Gibson's humble workshop beginnings in 1894, to becoming one of the world's best-loved guitar brands, Gibson's journey has spanned over more than a century and a string of milestones including adjustable truss rods, the first 'f' holes on fretted instruments and one of the first electric basses.
After halting production for the second World War, Gibson's popularity and workforce shot up from 1950 to 1966. During this era they launched iconic guitars such as the Hummingbird, Flying V, SG and ES-335, as well as the Gibson Les Paul which was released in 1952.
Current Gibson artists include Slash, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Clapton, B.B King and Keith Richards. Gibson have just 50 licensed UK dealers, and Gear4music is proud to be one of them.
To mark 120 years in the business, Gibson are launching 28 new 2014 models.
Sometimes it's the little touches that make a big difference. Gibson have updated various appointments on their guitars for a fresh feel for 2014. New touches include:
- 120th Anniversary banner inlay at the 12th fret
- Max Grip speed knobs
- Black graph tech nut and Min-ETune truss rod cover on all Min-ETune guitars
- Extra large strap button
- Undercut fret over binding on bound guitars (excluding Les Paul Traditional)
- Cleartone coated strings
- Graph Tech nut on all guitars
- New Sidewinder P90H Humbucker
- Cryogenically-treated fret wire
- Historic hard case included (with brown leather exterior and pink plush interior)
