Napster to relaunch in the UK
Napster, which was bought by the online music store Rhapsody in 2011, is to challenge Spotify in the music streaming market.
The company wants to keep the Napster brand alive in the UK and Europe because it feels like it has a connection with people. In the meantime it doesn't plan on offering a service in the US.
Napster was originally shut down over 11 years ago when the music industry banded together to launch a number of high-profile legal cases over illegal distribution of music.
"The acquisition of Napster and its subscriber base in the UK and Germany gives us an ideal entry to the European market," Rhapsody president Jon Irwin told the Telegraph.
"Through the benefit of scale, the strength of our editorial programming, and strategic partnerships, we can now bring the Napster service to even more consumers on a variety of platforms."
It will be a tough market to crack as Spotify has gone on to establish itself as a household name and developed close ties with social networking websites like Facebook.
