Neil Young 'has always had acoustic and electric sides'
The legendary folk-rock singer-songwriter has been named the 31st best player of the instrument by the manufacturer Gibson as part of its Top 50 Acoustic Guitarists of All Time series.
Explaining the reasons for Young's inclusion, columnist Bryan Wawzeneck said that although Young is revered for his work on the electric guitar, his acoustic tunes are also "beautiful and soulful".
He highlighted records such as Harvest and Prairie Wind as prime examples of his talent for building emotion with an acoustic guitar.
"Young might forgo the frenzied distortion when he unplugs, but he never comes up short on passion," Mr Wawzeneck remarked.
The likes of Duane Allman, Rik Emmett, Martin Carthy, Clarence White, Jerry Reed, Steve Howe and Eric Clapton have also featured in the rundown, with the winning acoustic guitar player set to be revealed later this month.Posted on 26 Oct 2010 20:11 to category : Band / Celebrity News
