Nelly's musclebound album
Nelly has compared his latest album to an American muscle car.
The 'Just A Dream' rapper is set to release his sixth album - which is his fifth body of work, after his two albums 'Sweat' and 'Suit' were packaged together as 'Sweatsuit' - and said it's title, '5.0' is a reference to his love of classic US cars.
He told Rwdmag.com: "I think the thing was I called it '5.0' originally because I'm a huge car guy and I love racing cars as well I love to drive fast.
"If you know anything about American muscle cars, a 5.0 Mustang is almost considered like an American classic car and so what I thought with this album it would be more of a classic Nelly sound.
"Obviously it's not up to me to determine what your classic album is going to be, it's up to your fans, because you don't judge or put yourself in the Hall of Fame. But I thought my approach would be more of a classic Nelly approach as I approached other albums and other projects in the past."
The 'Ride Wit Me' hitmaker also said he's not worried about the fact he wasn't included in a recent list of top rappers compiled by Black Entertainment Television (BET), and although he felt he was overlooked, he feels safe in his position as a top rapper.
He said: "I don't know what the criteria was and I didn't get it when I watched it because the same things they were bigging some people up for, they weren't bigging me up for.
"But it really wasn't that big a deal to me. It's obviously just a bunch of people's opinions.
"Out of 30 million records there was only one guy on the list who had sold more records than me. There's probably only one guy on the list that had a bigger name than me around the world."
'5.0' is released on November 15.Posted on 5 Nov 2010 06:45 to category : Band / Celebrity News
