Nirvana 'helped to reinvigorate rock 'n' roll'
Grunge band Nirvana had a huge role to play in bringing electric guitar music back to the masses in the 1990s.
In an article on the Gibson Lifestyle blog, columnist Chuck Crisafulli explained the rock genre had moved away from its roots at this point in time, with its proponents relying on overblown sounds and ridiculous haircuts. But Nirvana helped to reshape its direction with their tough new sound.
The columnist stated that the band managed to pull off the trick of moving music into dark new territory while also reminding audiences of the simple pleasures of rock. He said Kurt Cobain undoubtedly left a powerful legacy behind despite his tragically short life.
Nirvana were named by Gibson in 22nd in its rundown of the 50 most revolutionary artists of all time. With the top 20 positions due to be revealed later this week, those on the list so far include Jimmy Page, Run-DMC and Radiohead.
