Noel Gallagher: Today's musicians have nothing on Oasis and Blur
The singer-songwriter told the Daily Mirror that his former band Oasis and their great rival Blur were miles better than the musicians dominating the charts at the moment.
"The days of Oasis and Blur were the last great assault on the charts by alternative music," he told the newspaper.
"Christmas Top of the Pops was ¬dreadful. Every song ¬sounded like it came from the same field of music. There was a rap in there somewhere, everyone sang in a transatlantic soul voice and it was rubbish."
He added that the "Britpop thing" – which was dominated by Oasis and Blur – was something that was drastically different to what was being produced today.
"We were all great live bands, and now that's gone," he said.
Last year saw Gallagher release his debut studio album The High Flying Birds, which topped the charts.
His brother Liam went on to form Beady Eye after Oasis split up and has been enjoying commercial and critical success.
