Noel Gallagher is working on a new project.

The former Oasis rocker - who left the band last August after having a huge bust-up with his brother Liam - is concentrating his energies on his latest task, building a lavish summer house in the 10-acre gardens of his family mansion in Buckinghamshire, England.

The musician has applied for planning permission to allow him to put up a wooden building with a thatched roof which would be a place of refuge for his young family, including girlfriend Sara MacDonald and son Donovan.

In his application to the Chiltern District Council, he explained: "The summer house is solely for the use of the family for the enjoyment of their gardens."

The report also states the building will not look over his neighbours' homes and will be well hidden by existing plants and well away from the walls of his home.

Noel - who also has a daughter, Anais, with ex-wife Meg Mathews - explained: "The family intend to enhance the existing shrubs and trees with more planting and native meadow flowers. The overall appearance of the summer house is designed to blend in with the surrounding trees and shrubs and create a refuge in the garden."

Authorities will have a decision on whether or not the octagonal space will get the go ahead next month.

Until then, Noel, 42, will perform live for the first time since he quit the super-group at the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall on March 25 and 26.
