Ozzy Osbourne re-Imagines track
Ozzy Osbourne has released a version of John Lennon's 'Imagine' for Amnesty International.
The former Black Sabbath frontman has re-recorded the track in the same week that ex-Beatle John's life is being celebrated ahead of what would have been his 70th birthday on Saturday (09.10.10).
All profits from the track, which was released yesterday (05.10.10.) will be donated to the charity organisation.
Although he has enjoyed a long career in heavy metal, Ozzy has made no secret of his appreciation for John, and has previously told of his disbelief when he found out from his wife that the singer had been assassinated in New York in December 1980.
Ozzy has previously said: "The world stopped for me when Sharon told me John Lennon had been shot in New York. I can't even describe how I felt. If he was a politician, a soldier, anything else, it would be, 'Oh yeah, well he is in that kind of business,' but the amount of joy and hope that he gave people was just remarkable."
Ozzy also said one of his greatest regrets in life is that he never got to see the Beatles -who retired from live performance in 1967 - play.
He added: "The Beatles were the reason why I wanted to get going. I wanted to be a Beatle. I often daydream about whether they would ever have reformed. I never saw The Beatles, I saw Paul McCartney play but never saw The Beatles - I would have loved to have seen them play."Posted on 6 Oct 2010 06:45 to category : Music News
