PJ Harvey began playing guitar in teenage years
Solo star PJ Harvey has revealed she did not start performing until her later teenage years.
Speaking to the Scotsman, the multi-instrumentalist said she was more drawn to writing stories and plays in her early life before becoming interested in the power of music.
"I only began singing when I was 16," Harvey explained. "I bought a guitar and found I could put my words to music."
Since then, she has gone on to have a highly-acclaimed career and is about to release her ninth album, Let England Shake, later this month.
In addition to the guitar, Harvey has the ability to use the likes of the saxophone and the autoharp, even managing to play every instrument heard on one self-produced record in the past.
The musician is set to embark on a European tour in support of her new album, kicking off the run of gigs with a performance in Brussels on February 18th.
She will go on to play shows in Berlin and Paris, before returning to the UK for two dates in London on February 27th and 28th.
Harvey has also been booked to perform in California during April.
