PJ Harvey: musician, poet and artist
PJ Harvey, who is often seen with an electric guitar, has revealed a secret that will surprise most of her fans – her beginnings as a creative person were in art and not music.
Harvey might have become the belle of the art world instead of the music industry had the opportunity to produce an album not arisen.
Until that point she was considering doing a degree in sculpture, reported Spinner.
She told the news provider: "I'm a keen writer, not just of songs, but of poetry, short prose, short stories. I'd like to release regularly my extraneous works, drawings and writings that aren't songs, but just other things that I do."
Currently receiving many plaudits for her latest album Let England Shake, the multi-talented musician, who can play a range of music instruments, first gained the confidence to showcase some of her artistic work after a stint as a guest designer for Francis Ford Coppola's magazine.
She is keen on increasing her activity in these other areas so that they run concurrent to her music. She now plans on releasing the body of work that she has accumulated over the years.
In 2001 Harvey won the Mercury Prize for her album Stories from the City, Stories from the Heart. Rolling Stone magazine called it the best album of her career.
